On November 5, 2021, the third installment of the Astroworld Festival—originally started by American singer, songwriter, and rapper Travis Scott in 2018—was scheduled to take place at NRG Park in Houston. Fans eagerly awaited Scott, the headliner act. When he took center stage, chaos erupted among the crowd.

A huge commotion broke out as people from the back started pushing toward the front, resulting in many being crushed and trapped against the barricades. Security personnel and event organizers present at the venue were unable to control such large numbers of people, and the result was catastrophic.

At least 10 people died that day, 25 were hospitalized, and more than 300 people were injured. As per Tudum dated May 14, 2025, all those who lost their lives were between the ages of 9 and 27. Each had died from severe asphyxia: a condition in which the body does not receive enough oxygen, resulting in unconsciousness or even death.

Following the incident, several lawsuits were filed against Travis Scott and event co-organizers Live Nation, citing mismanagement and a lack of safety protocols. After years of legal proceedings, the cases were finally settled out of court in 2024.
