Gunther defeated Jey Uso to become a two-time World Heavyweight Champion on RAW. Former WWE head writer Vince Russo reviewed the show and shared his thoughts on the title change.
The Ring General faced Uso in a highly anticipated WrestleMania rematch. Uso was already bruised and battered heading into the match after a grueling Money in the Bank weekend. Gunther took advantage of this and ultimately put his opponent in a Sleeper hold for the victory.
This week on Legion of RAW, Vince Russo explained that WWE pulled the belt off Gunther too early at WrestleMania and didn't give Jey Uso a chance to cement himself as a credible champion either. He noted that the creative team was trying to get Uso over as a tough champion but ultimately gave in and switched the title.
"The whole development of Gunther and Jey, just taking the belt off of Gunther when they shouldn't have, and now just taking the belt off of Jey when I think they shouldn't have. I don't understand the rhyme or reason to it. It's usually a feel. You usually know. They were having a hard time building Jey, and I don't think this helps him in any way, shape, or form. Obviously, it helps Gunther. It's great for Gunther. You could tell Jey kind of wasn't feeling it, and I would've thought the most important thing was building his confidence." [From 2:04 onwards]
