In a nostalgic and candid moment that has reignited waves of teenage memories across social media, Miley Cyrus recently revisited her 2000s romance with fellow Disney Channel star Nick Jonas. The two stars dated from 2006 to 2007.
At the time of her appearance on the Every Single Album podcast on June 6, 2025, Cyrus fondly mentioned "Niley for life." Notably, this is a reference to their couple nickname, which was popular at the time. This brief acknowledgment of their past has brought new attention to their careers and the strong impressions they left on fans of Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers.
While talking about her 2009 book, Miles to Go, Cyrus said that she considered adding details about her then-recent ex-partner into the book.
"I probably was like… 'Nick Jonas dumped me, he’s a d*ck.' But they were like, 'We can say he’s not a very nice boy.' "
Cyrus also said, "I like Nick," despite their split. She added, "I'm into him." Miley further pointed out that Jonas is "married with children" and that "we’re all moving on."
"Everything is good in the world. Niley for life," she concluded, mentioning their couple name.
In the podcast interview, she also joked that although their relationship was in the past, Jonas had still been "catching strays", and that the same had also been happening to Cyrus’ ex-husband, actor Liam Hemsworth.
When Nick Jonas met Miley Cyrus: The beginning of ‘Niley’
Nick Jonas and Miley Cyrus first met each other on June 11, 2006, at the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation’s “A Time for Heroes” charity event, according to InStyle. When she was only 13, Miley Cyrus appeared in Hannah Montana. Meanwhile, Nick was also around the same age and just starting with the Jonas Brothers.
They also teamed up on Before the Storm for Jonas Brothers' 2009 album Lines, Vines and Trying Times. The track We Got the Party was also a collaborative effort between the two parties.
However, the Disney Channel stars announced their breakup by the end of 2007. There were also rumors online about how 7 Things, a song on Cyrus’ second album Breakout, was about Jonas.
In 2008, during an interview with Seventeen magazine, Miley Cyrus explained:
