Laos host Nepal at the New Laos National Stadium in Vientiane on Tuesday for their second game of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. Ranked 190th in the world, Laos were crushed 5-0 by Vietnam in their first game of the campaign back in March, leaving them rooted at the foot of the Group F standings.
Chau Ngoc Quang fired the Golden Star Warriors in front 11 minutes into the kick-off, before Nguyen Van Vi netted twice in either side of the half to make it 3-0. Nguyen Hai Long added a fourth goal in the 63rd minute before Nguyen Quang Hai put the final nail in Laos' coffin.
It was the joint heaviest loss for any side on the opening day, tied with Lebanon's 5-0 demolition of Brunei. Moreover, it was also Laos' second consecutive defeat, having lost 2-1 to Sri Lanka in a friendly just a few days earlier.
Meanwhile, the Nepalis opened their campaign with a 2-0 loss to Malaysia. Hector Hevel fired the Malay Tigers in front after 29 minutes, before La'Vere Corbin-Ong doubled their advantage in the 71st minute.
The defeat left Nepal in third place without a point, but ahead of Laos on goal difference. Since then, the Gorkhalis have played just once more, a friendly to Hong Kong which resulted in a goalless stalemate.
