Georgia and Cape Verde return to action on Sunday when they lock horns in a friendly at the Ramaz Shengelias Sakhelobis Stadioni. Both nations head into the weekend in fine form and a thrilling contest is on the cards in Kutaisi.
Luka Lochoshvili’s ninth-minute strike was enough to hand Georgia a 1-0 victory over Faroe Islands in their first friendly outing of the year last Thursday.
Before that, Willy Sagnol’s side secured a 9-1 aggregate victory over Armenia in their two-legged UEFA Nations League relegation/promotion playoff clash in March.
Georgia, who are currently 68th in the latest FIFA World Rankings, will now look to secure four straight wins for the first time since March 2022 and gather momentum ahead of their return to the World Cup qualifiers in September.
Cape Verde, on the other hand, turned in a standout team display on Tuesday when they cruised to a 3-0 victory over Malaysia in the second of their two consecutive friendly clashes.
Prior to that, Bubista’s men secured consecutive victories over Mauritius and Angola in the World Cup qualifiers in March before playing out a 1-1 draw with Malaysia on May 29.
Cape Verde have enjoyed a solid World Cup qualifying campaign as they lead the way at the top of Group D with 13 points from six games, one point above second-placed Cameroon.
Georgia and Cape Verde will look to secure a morale-boosting result ahead of their return to competitive action and this makes for an exciting watch in Kutaisi.
While we expect Bubista's men to put up a fight, Georgia have been near impenetrable on home soil and we predict they will come away with the desired result unscathed.
