What did Doechii say about Donald Trump? Singer criticizes the President and ICE while accepting BET Award
Doechii won the Best Female Hip-hop Artist at the 2025 BET Awards. The 26-year-old rapper was nominated alongside Cardi B, Doja Cat, GloRilla, Latto, Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, Rapsody, and Sexyy Red.
On Monday (June 9, 2025), while accepting her award at the Peacock Theater, Doechii criticized US President Donald Trump and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Doechii called out Trump for creating "fear and chaos" by trying to stop anti-ICE protests using military forces. The rapper asked the audience to consider what the US government is doing to prevent people from exercising their democratic rights.
"There are ruthless attacks that are creating fear and chaos in our communities in the name of law and order. Trump is using military forces to stop a protest, and I want y'all to consider what kind of government it appears to be when every time we exercise our democratic right to protest, the military is deployed against us," the rapper said.
According to CNN's June 10, 2025, report, on the fourth day of protest against mass ICE raids, protestors from downtown LA have been detained. The US military has deployed 700 Marines, and an additional 2,000 National Guard members are expected to be deployed soon. As per the media outlet, officers have used tear gas, flash bangs, and rubber bullets on protestors.
Doechii continued her acceptance speech, speaking up for the press, Black, Latino, transgender people, and people in Gaza. The rapper urged people to stand up and protest.
"People are being swept up and torn from their families, and I feel it's my responsibility as an artist to use this moment to speak up for all of the press people, for Black people, for Latino people, for trans people, for the people in Gaza, we all deserve to live in hope and not in fear, and I hope we stand together, my brothers and my sisters, against hate, and we protest against it," she said.
Doechii previously launched a mental health hub
On March 28, 2025, the 26-year-old rapper launched a mental health hub, Anxiety is Watching Me, a reference to her hit song Anxiety, after having struggled with her mental health for years.
The hub offers a form for its users to share what has helped their mental health. The website also provides various resources, including Mental Health America (MHA), The Crisis Text Line, The Trevor Project, and the LGBT National Help Center, among others.
"Doechii has experienced the challenges of anxiety firsthand and is using her platform to provide resources that can help you find guidance and tools to support your mental health. This is also a place where you can find comfort in knowing that there are others on the journey, as well. Nobody has to walk the path alone," the website reads.
In February 2025, the Grammy-winning rapper discussed her mental health struggles with The Cut. She told the media outlet that she was the victim of severe bullying, to the point that she had suicidal thoughts. However, she came out of those thoughts by realizing her death wouldn't have any effect on her bullies.
"I was getting bullied so bad that I was thinking about killing myself. I realized, 'Oh, f**k, I'm gonna kill myself and then I'm gonna be the only one dead. The bullies aren't gonna be with me, and everything they said is not coming with me either. I would just be gone,' and then I was like, 'F**k that!'" Doechii stated.
