On Monday, June 9, Katy Perry was performing her 2008 hit, Hot N Cold, in Sydney's Qudos Bank Arena, when a fan and concertgoer somehow managed to get on stage, joining her at the mic stand and jumping up and down.
As Perry moved away from the fan, he continued to dance on stage until two security personnel got hold of them. Meanwhile, the Dark Horse singer said mid-song:
"There's never going to be another show like this so just enjoy it"
The fan was then escorted offstage by the security members.
A video clip of the stage invasion was shared on X by @PopCrave later on Monday, and has since gone viral, receiving more than 3.6 million views and 14K likes.
Netizens have been commenting on it, with one of them writing:
The comment was in reference to Katy Perry's space trip in an all-women crew as part of Jeff Bezos' space company, Blue Origin. The Firework singer was heavily criticized in the wake of her trip.
Some netizens speculated that the fan interruption could've been a staged act.
Meanwhile, others praised Perry for handling the situation like a true star.
Katy Perry's ongoing The Lifetimes Tour is currently in its Australian leg, which kicked off on June 4, and will conclude in Adelaide on June 30.
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, after his stage invasion in Katy Perry's Sydney show on Monday night (June 9), the invader was recognized by the New South Wales police as Johnson Wen - a serial prankster who is infamous for such pranks on TikTok, where he goes by Pyjama Man.
Per the news outlet, this isn't Wen's first prank. He often shares video clips of himself running onto sporting pitches and invading concert stages for popularity on social media platforms.
In 2024, Johnson pulled a similar prank in one of The Weeknd's Melbourne shows (hosted at the Marvel Stadium), where he jumped up the stage to hug the Save Your Tears singer.
In 2023, Wen was at the Cricket World Cup's final match, where he approached cricketer Virat Kohli on the ground.
He was also at the Paris Olympics, where he ran into the track, delaying the men's 100-meter finals.
From Katy Perry's show, Wen was taken to the Auburn police station, where he was charged with entering enclosed land and obstructing a person in the performance of work/duties.
While he was released on a conditional bail, Johnson Wen has been given a court date of June 23 to appear at the Burwood Local Court. Wen has also received a ban order from the Sydney Olympic Park precinct.
Katy Perry's The Lifetimes Tour began two months ago in Mexico City (on April 23) and is currently in its Australian leg. The ET singer will travel to Ireland for the European dates of her tour in October 2025.
