Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior reacted on social media following Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portugal's UEFA Nations League triumph. Ronaldo won his third international trophy and second UEFA Nations League on Sunday, June 8, beating Spain on penalties in the final.
It was a cracking game between Spain and Portugal at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany. The two teams could not be separated even after extra time as the game finished 2-2.
However, Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal won the penalty shootout 5-3 to win the Nations League for the second time. They won the inaugural tournament in 2018-19, while France and Spain won the next two.
Vinicius Junior, who currently dons Ronaldo's iconic number seven jersey at Real Madrid, took to social media to congratulate the five-time Ballon d'Or winner. Taking to his official Instagram account to reply to a celebratory Portugal post, the Brazilian wrote, via Madrid Xtra:
"ADDICTED TO WINNING."
Vinicius Junior has become a key player for Real Madrid in recent years in their post-Cristiano Ronaldo era. He has made 316 appearances for the club, scoring 105 times and providing another 82 assists.
The Brazilian has won 14 trophies since joining the Spanish capital club in 2018, including two Champions Leagues. Ronaldo, on the other hand, became Madrid's highest goalscorer during his nine-year stint at the Santiago Bernabeu. He made 438 appearances for Los Blancos, scoring 450 times and producing 131 assists.
Amid speculations surrounding his future, Cristiano Ronaldo has insisted that he will stay at Al Nassr next season. The former Real Madrid and Manchester United attacker's current deal with the Saudi club expires this month.
There have been plenty of speculation that the 40-year-old could be on his way out of Al-Awwal Park this summer. However, after Portugal's UEFA Nations League win, he has revealed his plans to keep playing for Al Nassr next season. Ronaldo said, as quoted by O Jogo:
"The tears were of joy. When you win something for Portugal, it's always special, but there's nothing like winning for the national team, in my opinion. This generation deserved it and we were going to have a bit of luck and merit and we were going to win the final."
"We knew it was going to be difficult but we deserved it and this gives us confidence and allows us to go to the World Cup with more confidence. Future? It won't change anything. Al-Nassr, yes," he added.
Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Al Nassr in January 2023 completely transformed the Saudi Pro League. Plenty of top players from Europe and other parts of the world moved to Saudi Arabia after his switch.
The Portuguese superstar has made 105 appearances for Al Nassr to date, scoring 93 goals and producing 19 assists. While his numbers have been exceptional in Saudi Arabia, he has won just one trophy at the Riyadh-based club.
