Cristiano Ronaldo has opened up on his affection for Argentina and Lionel Messi. The two superstars of modern football have gifted the world one of the greatest rivalries in sporting history.

Now in the twilight of their careers, they continue to divide the world into two. The Portuguese superstar, interestingly, is in the final month of his contract with Al-Nassr and hasn't signed an extension yet.

Speaking recently to O Jogo, Cristiano Ronaldo added that he would like to visit Argentina soon.

"I have a lot of affection for Argentina, my wife is Argentine, how could I not? I love her and I have a very special affection for her. I've been invited to play in the Club World Cup in Argentina. You never know... The time is coming, I'm already 40 years old, but I can never say that I won't drink from that water. I find it very difficult. I've never been to Argentina, but I want to go, I have a lot of affection for the Argentines," said Ronaldo.

He continued:

"I don't have a favorite club. I have affection for Messi. We were rivals for many years, but we've been in this scene for 15 years. Messi didn't speak English, and I translated for him at galas, what we had to do. He always treated me well and respected me a lot. It's very difficult, but you never know."

Lionel Messi's contract with Inter Miami also expires at the end of this year.

Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that he will not be seen at the FIFA Club World Cup. Lionel Messi and Inter Miami are among the 32 teams participating in this month's tournament, but Al-Nassr have missed out.

Recent reports have suggested that the Portuguese could enter a short-term deal with one of the participating clubs. FIFA president Gianni Infantino added fuel to speculations by recently suggesting the same.

However, speaking recently as cited by Forbes, Cristiano Ronaldo poured cold water over those rumours.

“It’s irrelevant at this point. I prefer to talk about other things. I have had quite a few contacts, but you have to think in the short, medium and long term. I will not go to the Club World Cup, that is a fact,” said Ronaldo.

Lionel Messi and Ronaldo, however, could still face each other at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
