Indian cricket has often provided its fans with unique moments on the field, irrespective of the result, anytime they play. Yet, it would be hard to find anything topping two of their all-time legends, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, doing what they rarely do in a Test match.
Rewinding to the second Test of India's tour to New Zealand at Wellington in 2014, an unimaginable scene transpired when Dhoni took the red cherry for a bowl, and Kohli took the wicketkeeping gloves to replace Dhoni behind the stumps.
India desperately needed a wicket as Brendon McCullum and BJ Watling had added 347 for the sixth wicket. With Kohli wicketkeeping, Dhoni bowled a lone over for five runs before Watling fell two overs later to Mohammed Shami.
Here is a video clip of the incredible moment when Dhoni bowled and Kohli kept wickets in a Test match:
Virat Kohli made one of the biggest blunders earlier in the contest when he dropped McCullum on nine with New Zealand reeling at 78/3 after conceding a first-innings lead of 246 runs.
The Kiwi skipper made India pay, scoring a game-changing 302 off 559 balls to help the side post a massive 680/8 declared in the second innings.
Virat Kohli was at the center of criticism for his crucial dropped catch of Brendon McCullum in the second innings of the second Test. Team India had already lost the opening game of the two-Test series at Auckland by 40 runs.
Chasing 435 for victory on the final day by the hosts, India's victory chances in the second Test were all but done. Yet, avoiding a 0-2 whitewash was still up for grabs, and Kohli ensured to make up for his costly drop with a game-saving knock.
With India struggling at 54/3, the champion batter put his head down and scored an unbeaten 105 off 135 deliveries. It helped India finish on 166/3 in 52 overs and avoid defeat as the series ended with New Zealand winning by a 1-0 margin.
McCullum was adjudged the Player of the Match for his magical triple century to turn the Test match on its head.
